Our first guest in April was Mr. Deniz Aslan, Architect/Landscape Architect, the founder of DS Architecture. He started his talk explaining the starting point of the title of his presentation: “Encounters.” He continued his presentation giving details on the projects such as One Ortaköy, Ulus Savoy, Torun Center Quasar, Zorlu Center, İSKİ Terkos, RİVA Housing Project, Sakarya Forest Park, Zeynep-Sami Erol House ASOS ve Hande Bozdoğan House SAROS.
Mr. Aslan stated that they, as DS Architecture, could have gone to the end in all the projects they have launched so far; they focused on building structures as intertwined with nature and explained how they could convert those places without natural soil into living organisms. He told that they are working on projects capable of supplying its own water without need for irrigation and that they could have achieved great advancement in purifying water without the use of a mechanical system.
He emphasized that we will eventually need to develop projects in order to conserve water, humidity and energy and we need to embrace these kinds of projects for our future. He then talked about the Water Civilizations Museum they have built for İSKİ, which is not in use and the humorous side of the landscape architecture. Mr. Aslan stated that landscape architecture cannot be separated from architecture; moreover, it must be considered as an organic material for architecture.
Mr. Aslan, who deemed himself as an architect indulged in landscape architecture, concluded his talk by telling about his ideas on vertical greens.
