This week, our first guest was Aksoy Mimarlık Architectural Company Founder Gökhan Aksoy. Mr. Aksoy began the conversation by expressing his passion for architecture and explained the great moral satisfaction of being commemorated with the work that has been created even years after death. He talked about his years at school, his works experience following his graduation and how he decided to establish his own architectural company in order to reveal his own talent.
Mr. Aksoy told the story of the architectural competitions which he and his friends attended and explained that finally their project was selected between 192 candidates for the Constitutional Court facilities. He specified that it is easier for an architect to receive new projects once he/she has a project which is realized.
Mr. Aksoy said he adopts each of his projects as his child and mentioned that convincing the clients is one of the most enjoyable aspects of his profession. He stressed that having an individual vision, innovation and originality is very important for architectural creation.
After talking about his ongoing projects in Ankara, Bodrum, İstanbul, İzmit and abroad, Mr. Aksoy answered the questions of the students. He told that architecture is the art of creating buildings and that the graduates of the faculty of architecture won’t have difficulty in finding employment. He also explained the different options architects have, like the active construction activities and the academic studies and stressed that competitions give the new graduates the opportunity to prove themselves.
Mr. Aksoy, specified the importance of studying abroad at least at the summer schools and he ended the conversation by mentioning how designing life helps oneself to develop an individual personality.
