Tarih:  Date

The second guest of December in our Conversations with Turkey’s Career Pioneers was ASELSAN Sector President and Deputy Director General Suat Bengür. Mr. Bengür began the conversation by explaining under what circumstances ASELSAN was established in 1975 and how it turned into a company with currently 5000 employees. He indicated that he applied for ASELSAN’s scholarship announcement while he was a student at METU Department of Electronic Engineering and that he began immediately working there following his graduation in 1981.

Mr. Bengür explained that mostly electrical, electronic, mechanical and computer engineers work at ASELSAN even though there are employees from other sectors and he answered the questions of the students on the subject. Mr. Bengür specified the criteria they look for in the selection of interns and employees and clarified the misconceptions about ASELSAN. He also mentioned the subcontractor services they receive from universities and other companies.

Mr. Bengür recommended the students to choose the departments they desire rather than following the desires of their families, to focus on their targets and that they should always have a plan B for unexpected problems. He stressed the importance of performing their professions with excellence. Mr. Bengür also mentioned the importance of taking on responsibility and initiative in the business life, adding that the social relations and hobbies are of great importance. He stated that with the right time management, they would have the chance to perform all these together.

Mr. Bengür stated that the primary goal of ASELSAN which is a subsidiary institution of the Turkish Armed Forces is to produce the technology which is crucial for defence, transportation, security, energy and health sectors. He completed the conversation by listing the difficulties that the students might face in their Professional lives and what they could do to overcome these difficulties.
