Conversations with Turkey's Career Pioneers – Tijen Armağan

The first guest of May in Conversations with Turkey’s Career Pioneers was ENOCTA General Director Tijen Armağan. Ms. Armağan began the conversation by presenting herself and getting acquainted with the students. She mentioned that following her secondary education at TED Ankara College and her undergraduate studies at METU Department of Economics, she did not make a really conscious choice concerning her career at first but then recognized her social skills were better and shaped her professional life accordingly.

Ms. Armağan, explained that she first refused the invitation of Microsoft but later on took on different positions at the company between 1993-2005.

Tijen Armağan said she gave a break of 3 months in her career and explained how she went on by establishing a consultancy company afterwards. Ms. Armağan stated she loves learning and that she investigates in detail the innovations she meets. She gave examples from call centers, corporate alliances and online trainings as fields one has to develop professionally consistently.

Ms. Armağan specified that undergraduate education is only a basis and that individual skills have to be developed. She mentioned that the new generations are very lucky in accessing information easily, anytime and anywhere.

Ms. Armağan recommended the students to start working while they continue their studies in order to find out their preferences and told them not be become slaves of the money. She also mentioned the importance of keeping the pace with the innovations and that it is one of the primary conditions of success.

Ms. Armağan finalized her energetic conversation by stressing the significance of communication and explained that how we say things is more important than what we say.
