Our guest in April was Mr. Hasan Süel, Vice President at Executive Board of Vodafone Turkey and The President of Vodafone Turkey Foundation. He started his talk telling about his TED Ankara College times and stated that he is in 26th year of his career and he is going to share what he has learnt along the way.
Mr. Süel stated that success is never coincidental and one can eventually reach it provided that they proceed with confidence and work hard; he added that those who focused on their own work rather than other peoples are likely to become more successful. He emphasized the importance of being ethical and well-disposed and individual success would not last long, instead we had better focus on the success of our team.
Mr. Süel said that reading would ever increase our depth and breadth, make us discernible in the crowd and it would surely improve our communication skills. He advised the audience to keep their antennas up, always be sensible to what’s going on outside, know thyself and be aware of their capabilities; and he has given examples from his own experience.
Mr Süel talked on the recruiting process of Vodafone, how they evaluated the candidates by their answers during the interview, and how the candidates have gone through 6-month shifts in various departments under Vodafone Discover program.
Mr. Süel, who mentioned the importance of social responsibility, volunteering and raising awareness in society, stated that providing support without any expectation is the hallmark of leadership the world has now sought. He then answered questions from the audience and ended his talk emphasizing that it is easy to reach success provided that right targets are set; anyone might fail along the way, yet it is not possible to climb to the top without going through ups and downs.
