Conversations with Turkey's Career Pioneers – ALİ OSMAN ÖZTÜRK
The second guest of this week’s Conversations with Turkey’s Career Pioneers was Mr. Ali Osman Öztürk, founder of A Design & Architecture. Mr. Öztürk started his talk by introducing himself. He told that he loved his profession and he would do the same if he were born again. He had a chance to meet many people and traveled a lot owing to this profession and he enjoyed it much.
He stated that architecture is an ancient profession that requires patience, enthusiasm and devotion and it takes years to achieve a level of success but taking things slowly is a more stable way of success as one may fail as fast as he climbs up. Mr. Öztürk, who could not make a visual presentation due to technical issues, cited world-renowned architects like Norman Foster and Ieoh Ming Pei. He stated that Turkey, although coming from behind in architecture, has considerably developed in terms of design.
Mr. Öztürk went on his talk by answering questions from the students. He told that one may learn many things from the buildings without even realizing as the spaces we are living in are shaping us. He told that the institutions like TED and its building, with a deep-rooted history, are distinguished in architecture; that they have a spirit. He told that Armada Street was his favorite project and architects must consider every detail in their projects, even the route of garbage disposal.
Mr. Öztürk said that Y-generation people are so impatient. One can be self-taught, they only need to listen to themselves. Technology has developed to such an extent that drawing skills are no longer required, yet the main thing is creativity and design. Mr. Öztürk concluded his conversation by adding that the students are not to become architects necessarily as they graduate from the department of architecture; they may also consider working in product design, façade decoration, lighting design, automobile-yacht design, etc.
